Unequal Exchange and the Prospects of Socialism returns—a foundational analysis of global inequality, reissued for today’s revolutionary discourse.

Since its original underground English publication in 1986, the Communist Working Group’s (CWG) vital text, Unequal Exchange and the Prospects of Socialism, has remained not only a prescient work, but also extremely difficult to find. After the 1989 capture of many CWG members for their involvement in bank robberies across Denmark—actions which supported liberation movements in the Global South, including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine—the group eventually dissolved. Yet, their work and legacy have persisted, albeit in often inaccessible forms.
Now, for the first time since its original publication, Iskra Books is proud to announce a new edition of this landmark text. Featuring an extensive new prologue and epilogue by legendary CWG member Torkil Lauesen, along with a new preface by Nemanja Lukic (Anti-Imperialist Network and Arghiri Emmanuel Association) and Henry Hakamaki (Guerrilla History and Iskra Books), this edition also retains the original introduction by Arghiri Emmanuel. Unequal Exchange and the Prospects of Socialism will be essential reading for activists, educators, and scholars in revolutionary studies.
Publication is set to take place in just a few months—stay tuned for release details!
